| In the late 1970s, legislation required that all school districts and county
offices of education form geographical regions of sufficient size and scope
to provide special education services. There are approximately 116 regions
or Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs California). The San Luis Obispo
County SELPA serves the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education (SLOCOE)
and ten school districts. There are approximately 4,100 special education students
served by the San Luis Obispo SELPA. |
